Initiative TitleMiddle States Self-Study & Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE)
Submitted in Previous Year(s)2011/2012
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, RationaleThe College last administered the CCSSE survey in Spring 2009 (establishing a baseline); survey costs were paid for by System. (The cost of the administration of the survey is currently estimated using 2011 price lists for a single institution.) Participation in the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) provides institutions with many benefits, including data that is to utilized for accreditation purposes. CCSSE results help answer questions related to institutional policies and programs associated with student engagement and learning. The results assist the College in efforts to improve institutional practices/policies that can affect curriculum, campus climate and support services, etc. CCSSE provides for Colleges an "Accreditation Toolkit" - http://www.ccsse.org/resources/accreditation/MSCHE_CCSSE.pdf

Prioritization Notes

Level 4 (PBIE Committee)

The upcoming Middle States Self-Study makes this initiative a necessity for SUNY Orange as this type of assessment is a requirement for Middle States accreditation. By conducting this survey again (it was administered almost 3 years ago) we will be able to see where we have made improvements with respect to institutional practices & policies that affect curriculum, campus climate, support services, etc. and what still needs or now needs to focused on. It also allows us to compare our performance in different areas of student engagement and learning with other institutions that have administered this survey.
