Newburgh Campus Group Visits

Initiative TitleNewburgh Campus Group Visits
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

Part of recruiting traditional students at a community college is challenging assumptions about the academic rigor and overall student experience at the community college.  One effective way to successfully challenge these assumptions is to invite students to campus.  SUNY Orange offers a myriad of on-campus visit opportunities but has struggled with attendance.  Offering group visits that includes transportation addresses two issues—limited transportation infrastructure in Orange County and offering more targeted program options to unique prospects.  This has proven to be successful on the Middletown campus, would like to expand to the Newburgh campus for eastern Orange County schools and organizations.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

As enrollment has declined, it has become clear that new and innovative ideas are necessary in order to change the downward trend.  The Director of Admissions has identified this type of programming as a solution to converting prospective traditional-age students into current students.

Department GoalsCollaborate with Admission and Financial Aid Office to provide opportunities of engagement with groups and organizations that serve prospective students including those from diverse and underserved backgrounds.
