Office & Director of Internship

Initiative TitleOffice & Director of Internship
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, RationaleThis Director would handle attracting industry and businesses that would hire our sudents on on an internship or cooperative basis. The purpose would be to give students the opportunity for experience in their field. This Director would handle campus wide internhips and co-ops. They would be responsible for creating the contracts between the business, site and student. They would be constantly seeking new opportunites for the students, as well as expanding the program. Currently, the department chair handles this operation. It is extremely time consuming. Since the department chair has many other duties to perform, they cannot devote the amount of time they would like to in order to maximize the number of opportunities for the students.
Consequences of this initiative not being fundedWe would not be keeping up the larest trends in community colleges for required interships in AAS degrees. According to our employer surveys, students have an advantage for employment with internship experience. Students would be at a disadvantage for hiring - no experience
