Institutional Goals

Goal How will the initiative support this institutional goal?
The college must have a facilities plan for maintaining this public space. Numerous public and academic events are held in the Orange Hall Theatre each year. Naturally, the equipment and facility cannot continue to hold up without regular maintentance and upgrades.
Again, this facility is accessible to both students and community members and must be maintained properly as a public facility which is often seen as the "face" of the college.

Prioritization Notes

Level 4 (PBIE Committee)

Orange Hall Theatre serves the entire community and is the focal point for cultural programming on campus. With the approval of a similar initiative last cycle, many needed improvements are in the process of being made. This initiative calls for some additional maintenance and improvements including storage space, expansion of the theatre control booth and a saw. The stage has been and continues to be used as a storage space for recycled scenery and props. The safety issues this practice raises are obvious when students are working on stage or rehearsing. Items with utility are currently dismantled and disposed of, which is contrary to the spirit of the campus wide sustainability efforts, wasteful and expensive over the long term. The recent additions of audio equipment have enhanced live event presentations in Orange Hall Theatre. The theatre control booth is now cramped. Additionally, it is not designed for the type of live event and recording tasks we now routinely support. It needs to be expanded and redesigned to accommodate new equipment and new mission.
