P3 Pilot- Professional Partners Project

Initiative TitleP3 Pilot- Professional Partners Project
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, RationaleThe rationale for this pilot addresses the need to add area schools/teachers that exhibit excellence and developmentally appropriate practices for the students in the AAS ECDC Field I and Field II capstone courses. The second justification addresses the need to incorporate a high quality research and reflection component to those capstone courses that is relevant to classroom practice. Currently our partnership with local schools is a mixture of those that are exemplary and those lacking. We want our students to experience best practices and role models rather than learning through negative experience. Those partners chosen would parallel the student learning outcomes in the ECDC AAS degree program and courses. The P3 project would identify 3-5 professionals to whom we would present a stipend each semester. Their responsibilities would include, but not be limited to: --Hosting Field students both Fall and Spring semesters --Deciding on an Action Research project based in their classroom, collaborating with the cohort of Orange Field students who chose that specfic Action Research Project --Mentoring their cohort --Attending three meetings during two semesters, leading one of those by sharing their environment design/educational philosophy/action research topic and progress. --Being part of the year end celebratory sharing event with all Field students and open to all AAS ECDC "undergraduate" students --Contributing thoughts for professional article the Education Department would compose for the Learning Alive publication.
Consequences of this initiative not being fundedContinuation of "hit or miss" placement partners for Field participation. Absence of a research/reflective piece as a component of the Field capstone courses, adding to the incorrect perception that an AAS degree in Early Childhood Development and Care is "less" academic/quality than other programs. We wish to elevate the expectations of these students in a relevant and meaningful way that includes research, critical thinking, reflection, hypothesis, and prescription. Continued loss of the best local teachers as Hosts for our Field students to the 4 year colleges who are able to offer incentives.
