Partner in Community Connections Program: Partners for Learning and Service

Initiative TitlePartner in Community Connections Program: Partners for Learning and Service
Submitted in Previous Year(s)2008-2009
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, RationaleAs part of the Newburgh campus, the OTA Department is proposing an initiative named the Community Connections Program:Partners for Learning and Service. One component of this is Parent/Child Play Groups which would be a collaborative effort with OTA and the Education Department. This facet would offer weekly play groups fthrough a family centered opportunity to learn developmentally appropriate play modes, social/emotional growth, incorporate play and occupational therapy, and provide fun, low-key parent education about child development and parenting skills. In addition to those elements listed above, this initiative would also be a non-threatening, bridge-builidng connection to the constituents of Newburgh, and a potential source of revenue.
Consequences of this initiative not being fundedMissed opportunity to enhance and uphold a community partnership through educational, medical, cultural, social, and artistic presentations. Absence of a long range connection to families in Newburgh for future associations, even potential adult student enrollment.
