Program expansion

Initiative TitleProgram expansion
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

The department has over 100 applicants each year for only 24 seats. Expansion would all us to capture more students, hopefully graduate more students, and thus serve the community by filling jobs related to the national healthcare shortage. However, the cost of expansion or relocation is most likely beyond the budget though this system. See coverage/intro page for more information. The est cost to move to Newburgh for example is hundreds of thousands of dollars due to structural needs.

Due to this, I am not going into great detail for this goal in the system.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

The healthcare shortage regarding radiography (X-ray, CT, MRI, Mammography etc.) will continue. We will not be able to accept more students into the program due to limited space. Students will continue to struggle for practice time that is only after hours and many work or have children to tend to. This contributes to failures. The local clinical sites will be disappointed and could allow other schools to rotate through there facilities. We are at risk of a proprietary school opening and taking the college's potential students as well as having to share clinical sites with them which could lower the program capacity or ability to rotate to a site all together.

Institutional Goals

Goal How will the initiative support this institutional goal?
This summary will be used for each area or goal. We have many students applying for the program (over 100 each year) and only 24 seats each fall. Accepting more students in the program increases the likelihood of more students graduating and finding work in the field. This helps the national and local healthcare shortage. This also helps the local economy by students becoming employees and paying taxes in the county or state as well as buying products and services in these areas. This also supports local healthcare settings and increases the bond between these institutions and the college/program. Having the appropriate amount of healthcare workers also supports access to healthcare like procedures, diagnosis and treatment especially in underserved and populated areas.
