Programmer Succession Plan

Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

Many of our analysts have a wealth of institutional and technical Banner knowledge.  Despite extensive documentation of all systems, it is extremely difficult to replace this type of experience.  There are also many custom reports and external scripting that have been developed over the years to assist in the institution's processing needs.  Many of the analysts have a long history at the College and are on the brink of retirement.  It would be extremely advantageous to the Information Technology Services department and the College as a whole to take advantage of any knowledge transfer that could occur prior to any retirements by the analysts.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

We will be unable to provide timely support to some of the critical applications such as the adjunct payroll, retirement reporting, etc.
We will not have sufficient technical expertise to be able to troubleshoot issues when it comes to the Student module of Banner.
We will not be able to analyze and implement effective solutions for Admissions, Registration and Payroll departments.
We will not be able to fully support the new HR module, as we will be occupied filling the void in supporting the solutions developed by a retiring member of the Information systems department.
