Initiative TitlePurchase 12 microscopes for use by MLT students
Submitted in Previous Year(s)2018
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

12 microscopes are needed to replace the failing microscopes in the MLT labs. These are specialized microscopes which are used by all MLT students in numerous MLT labs: Fundamentals of Medical Physiology, Hematology, Urinalysis, Immunology and Blood Bank. Students start using these microscopes form the first semester of the program until the 4th semester. Microscopes are critical tools of the profession and students must learn to use and perfect their skills by using and focusing these microscopes to identify various cells, anemias, leukemias, bacteria, fungi, parasites agglutination reactions among other uses.

To comply with licensure and accreditation requirements, equipment must be up to date so that students can learn the latest skills.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

Microscopes are necessary for students to practice and perfect their skills before entering the clinical setting. They are also necessary for students to succeed in the classroom and for lab performance.
