Purchase 2 Phlebotomy arms

Initiative TitlePurchase 2 Phlebotomy arms
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

Phlebotomy is a certificate course offered in the Clinical Lab Science Department. It is accredited by NAACLS and taught by experienced faculty in the field. Before students are scheduled for clinicals where they draw/obtain blood by venipuncture on patients, they practice on dummy arms in the lab. The instructors ensure that our students are able to stick successfully and safely on the dummy arms before they enter the clinical setting to apply their skills on patients.

The arms that are being used have seen better days and are ready to be replaced.

To comply with accreditation requirements, equipment must be up to date so that students can learn the latest skills.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

Phlebotomy arms are necessary in training our phlebotomy students. Without working arms students cannot achieve the necessary competency to go into clinicals which require a certain level of assessed skill before they stick patients.

Department GoalsPurchase of various laboratory equipment for the MLT and Phlebotomy programs for student success and successful accreditation outcomes.
