Purchase portable sink for Biotech 251 (Education Dept. Dedicated Classroom)

Initiative TitlePurchase portable sink for Biotech 251 (Education Dept. Dedicated Classroom)
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

The Education department is fortunate to have the "hands-on learning lab", which is an area in our dedicated classroom that is modeled after an early childhood classroom.  In that lab, there are children's books, child-sized furniture, math manipulatives, art supplies, blocks, and other developmentally appropriate early childhood materials.  Students and instructors consistently use this area of the classroom to model sample lessons, explore materials, and rearrange the area to fit a particular thematic unit.  The department has long remarked that it would be extremely helpful to have a sink in the classroom to aid in the development (and clean up) of early childhood activities (particularly in the areas of science and art).  Unfortunately, there is not a water source in the classroom.  A portable sink is an excellent alternative to a traditional sink, and would be a frequently used resource in the classroom.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

Having a portable sink would make carrying out early childhood activities much easier.  Without this resource, there are some early childhood activities that are simply not possible or are very difficult to clean up.
