Purchase The Creative Curriculum Resource for Education Department Use

Initiative TitlePurchase The Creative Curriculum Resource for Education Department Use
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

The SUNY Orange Lab School primarily uses the Creative Curriculum to design instructional experiences for children in the preschool rooms.  This is an evidence-based, developmentally appropriate tool that would be an excellent resource for our future Early Childhood teachers.  It would be used in MANY education courses, including EDU 103, EDU 109, EDU 105, EDU 204, and EDU 205.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

Most Early Childhood teachers work in a Child Care settings where a published curriculum is used.  Although many published curricula are not in alignment with the Education Department's educational philosophy, the Creative Curriculum is an excellent resource, and is used in the Lab Schools.  Not having these resources readily available to students makes it difficult to get them accustomed to using published curricula.

Department GoalsRefine processes for collaboration with the Lab School to enhance the value and quality of education students’ field experiences.

Institutional Goals

Goal How will the initiative support this institutional goal?
The Creative Curriculum will provide exceptional resources and support for SUNY Orange Education students who are engaging in lesson planning activities.
The Creative Curriculum is up to date, and evidence based, and provides a current, relevant resource for Education students and faculty.
Considering that the Lab Schools use the Creative Curriculum, this would allow further collaboration with Lab School teachers, and allow students to see in the classroom what they are also seeing in the Lab Schools.
