Smartroom/Computer Lab Writing Classroom

Initiative TitleSmartroom/Computer Lab Writing Classroom
Submitted in Previous Year(s)2010-2011
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, RationaleMany, if not most, of our students now use computers and other electronic devices for most things. Computer based classrooms for teaching writing have been a part of campuses for over 20 years. Having a computer classroom devoted to writing classes is a logical step to helping students learn how to best use the computer as a writing tool, work with their writing more actively in class and develop their skills in new ways. Also, with the surge in using computer based resources for research, a lab where the entire class can be placed and learning would also be beneficial to students. A classroom (perhaps BT 264) with 26 networked stations would be used during each period of the day and help the department and college keep up with the changes in teaching technology and our students' needs.
Consequences of this initiative not being fundedThe one consequence is a valuable resource would be unavailable to our faculty and students.
