Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale | We plan to create two or three faculty offices and a student study lounge out of the current physics storage area (Ha 312a). Current small study lounge will be turned into the physics storage area. Plan will involve removal of outdated and unused equipment. Current study lounge is enormously successful, but it is now too small. Also, faculty office space is needed for both full-time and adjunct faculty members. Space will be so designed that it will still be useful as described, even if the Department of Science and Engineering were to move to new faculities in the future. This plan places the faculty offices in the exact location where students meet - an extremely effective retention arrangement. |
Consequences of this initiative not being funded | The Engineering Study Lounge has been a successful key component in our total retention strategy. We will not be able to accomodate the students who desire our help. Also, two or three new faculty offices will not be available to incoming faculty |
