SUNY Orange Sponsored Bus Trips for At-Risk Populations

Initiative TitleSUNY Orange Sponsored Bus Trips for At-Risk Populations
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

The Office of Admissions would like to request funding for high school bus trips for students that from a at-risk population. This would enable us to promote early college awareness regarding SUNY Orange and the enrollment process. The high school's we would like to promote this option to would be Middletown High School, Newburgh Free Academy, Pine Bush, Port Jervis, Spring Valley High School (Rockland County), Ramapo High School (Rockland County) and Beacon High School (Dutchess County).

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

With the high school graduation numbers declining, it has come to our attention that students from an at-risk population may not have the resources to get to and from SUNY Orange to learn more about their educational options. We feel that this funding would enable us to reach these students, a population that tends to utilize a community college experience. The Office of Admissions feels that if we cannot get this initiative funded, we may lose the opportunity to educate this particular group regarding their educational opportunities.
