Support of student research projects in General Biology II, Ecology

Initiative TitleSupport of student research projects in General Biology II, Ecology
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, RationaleAs part of their active learning experience, students in General Biology II and in Ecology are expected to complete individual/small group research projects under the direction of instructional faculty. Funding for this initiative will allow purchase of supplies/equipment required to support such projects. Funding will also be used to allow selected students to travel to and present the results of their studies to local professional audiences (Association of Two-year College Biologists, Environmental Consortium Symposia) and to publish such results in an on-site journal to be developed. This journal will allow students in future semesters to access previous studies and to formulate follow-up research plans.
Consequences of this initiative not being fundedStudents in the Biology major track courses will not have full opportunity to experience realistic research activity and to interact with peers and professionals at regional scientific conferences.
