Transfer CSI Staff to Student Lounge area

Initiative TitleTransfer CSI Staff to Student Lounge area
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

The reason for this proposal is to bring CSI staff and student organizations physically closer together to accommodate our growing clubs and student engagement. It’s important that the CSI staff be “in the thick of it” and that students have easier access to us AND their student space at the same time instead of climbing up the stairs to get in touch with us. Additionally with new technology and furniture around, it may be a good idea to have a slightly increased staff presence. This is evident from some ongoing issues with use of the space. Having more staff presence on the first floor could improve respect of the space and maintain community standards.

The vision for moving forward with this is as follows:

  • Club Central Station - Director's Office

  • Alumni Room - divided to include clerical staff, office supplies such as poster, copier, fridge, etc., CSI storage, event prep space, Club Central Station, potential new Coordinator office (see other initiative) c

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

With increased involvement, is becoming challenging to service our students and clubs from a completely different floor than where they meet. Additionally, now that we have a completely revamped highly utilized game room and student lounge, we would be unable to regularly monitor activity down here without being present. Without moving, we will have continued difficulties stopping into club meetings, holding events downstairs, and meeting the students where they're at. Without this, it will be difficult to help our clubs prosper further and ensure we are meeting their growing needs.

Department GoalsFurther immerse Center for Student Involvement Staff in the on goings of student organizations and the student lounge.

Institutional Goals

Goal How will the initiative support this institutional goal?
This would enhance involvement and engagement support opportunities. By moving CSI to a highly populated engagement space, we can more efficiently and effectively support our students and organizations in day to day operations.
With ongoing issues regarding the safety of the students and the equipment in the student lounge, a heavier presence of staff could help maintain safe facilities that support the growth of our SUNY Orange communities and encourage students to respect their shared social environment
As we are a co-curricular and leadership focused office, moving to where our students regularly hold meetings that foster both of these developmental opportunities will allow us to coach them and their leadership abilities more closely and frequently.
We could enhance our ability to service student clubs, organizations, and better connect with students being where they are allowing us to find out organically what is needed to enhance student involvement and engagement.
