(VIEW NOTE) Vectra Genisys laser/laser module

Initiative Title(VIEW NOTE) Vectra Genisys laser/laser module
Submitted in Previous Year(s)2007-2008
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale*During the Spring Semester 2009, the PTA Program had the opportunity to purchase a portion of the Vectra Genisys Combination Unit. The components purchased were; multiple waveform electrotherapy, dual frequency ultrasound, EMG, combination electrotherapy, and EMG activated stimulation. * Vectra Genisys Laser can be purchased separately as this unit is modular and can be added upon. It will provide educational opportunities for our students in three light treatment options (SLD, light therapy, and cold laser). Currently we do not maintain any equipment that can deliver this form of treatment/education. * By purchasing this combination unit over the course of a two year period, it has allowed for improved budgetting while at the same time allowing for continued upgrades to our current technology (a necessity of our accreditation process). * Additionally, this unit provides state of the art treatment options - on-board patient data management, operator remote controls, both anatomical and pathological libraries and easily added to the combination system's cart for portability. * These devices will maintain our ability to compete with other colleges in our ability to offer up to the minute PTA educational opportunities.
Consequences of this initiative not being fundedEntry level students will not have previous experience with working with this type of equipment and therefore be less prepared for the clinical experience.

Institutional Goals

Goal How will the initiative support this institutional goal?
By the purchase and implementation of the Vectra Genysis laser module the PTA program will be educating it's students to meet the needs of the clinical community with state of the art treatment equipment. Current PTA program equipment resources do not match community based clinical settings. The cold laser has been widely used in the treatment of physical therapy related patients for many years with its inital implementation in the clinical setting approximately 40 years ago (1967).

Prioritization Notes

Level 4 (PBIE Committee)

In the Spring 2009 Semester, the PTA Program had the opportunity to purchase a portion of the Vectra Genisys Combination Unit. The Vectra Genisys Laser will add to what is being used with the previously purchased combination unit. The laser will provide educational opportunities for our students that are not currently available as we do not maintain any equipment that can deliver the state of the art treatment options this unit does. Continuous upgrades to our current technology is a necessity of the accreditation process and adding this component to the unit will maintain our ability to compete with other colleges as we will be offering our students the latest technology education in the field.
