Critical Information, Notes, Justification, RationaleA web editor at SUNY Orange would oversee daily maintenance of the College's web site, including content creation, updating and research on current internet and web site trends regionally and nationally. Under the direction of the Director of Communications, the web editor would work in concert with staff, faculty and administration to strengthen the content and design of the web site. The web editor would work with the academic and support departments to gather content and event information, but would be responsible for uploading to the College web site. The web editor would also participate in the College's new "Grapevine" and "Student Grapevine" communication systems, which would assist the Director of Communications in streamlining communications to various constituent groups. The web editor would also be involved in maintaining "new" media initiatives, such as social networking sites and other communication tools.
Consequences of this initiative not being fundedThe College would be required to continue using the volunteer-based "web page manager" system that currently exists. Because this group is comprised of volunteers, there are many times where information on the web site is outdated and/or missing altogether. This hampers the College's communication efficiency and adds to the spread of mis-information. In addition, as other communication programs and plans are developed (Grapevine, Student Grapevine, Student Services Communications Plan), more and more information will be relayed to students, faculty and staff. This information will often provide links to the college web site. As we direct more and more people to our web site, it will be imperative that the site be up-to-date and accurate. Missing or outdated information contradicts our efforts at presenting a "clear, compelling and concise image of the College."
