Women in Technology

Initiative TitleWomen in Technology
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, RationaleThis would be an initiative that would attract women into non-traditional fields. This would operate on 2 levels. The first level would be to bring in young girls from the Middle and High schools to show them the different fields they could get into. They would spend a day at the college interacting with current students, as well as student career services, and working on a predetermined project, The second level would be to invite woment who are working in the various fields to come and talk to and possible mentor the women in our degree programs. This could be facilitated through a informal "get-together", where the women could field questions from the students, and where possible, bring samples of their work.
Consequences of this initiative not being fundedThere are many young girls out there who would be very talented in these non-traditional areas. However, they may never enter these fields if they are never exposed to the possibilities.
