Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale	The Global Studies Department, in conjunction with the Gilman Center for International Education, would like to offer a small stipend to a student to assist in the archiving of Congressman Gilman's materials. A professional archivist is already working on the documents, so we believe incorporating a student assistant would be easily initiated. Getting students actively involved in the Gilman Center would be a welcome injection of energy into the Center, which has languished in recent years. We believe that being able to provide interested students with experience in using actual historic methods and techniques will be invaluable for those seeking to continue on in the many fields associated with history, political science, etc. A student archivist could learn with the current individual processing the Gilman records and gain this experience for their future career. Funding this project would also move along the creation of a Gilman archive which the college committed itself to doing when the Center was created.
Consequences of this initiative not being funded	The Gilman Center will continue to have thousands of essential documents not available to students, faculty and the public for viewing and research applications.
