The Center for Teaching & Learning 

Vision

The Center for Teaching & Learning  (CTL) serves as a resource center that explores, promotes, and supports excellence in teaching and learning, pedagogical best practices, innovative technologies, and campus collaborations that enhance the student experience.

Mission

The Center for Teaching & Learning is committed to supporting faculty and staff through professional development opportunities in order to enhance the quality of the teaching and learning process and the student-centered learning environment at SUNY Orange.

The CTL:

  • Provides pedagogical best practices and technology training to enhance course goals and objectives.
  • Fosters the integration of innovative teaching methods/technologies to meet the diverse learning styles of students.
  • Provides professional development resources and training opportunities that enhance the teaching and learning experience.
  • Supports collegiality of SUNY Orange faculty and staff through collaborative workshops and dialogue.
  • Explores new technology options that support student learning and success.

Goals

The goals of the CTL align with the College Strategic Priorities, the Academic Master Plan, Student Services Initiatives, and Instructional Technology Priorities.  In support of this goal, the CTL strives to:

  • Identify, acquire, and integrate emerging instructional technology & training needs in higher education to support the college’s academic programs.
  • Maintain currency of training programs and curriculum development to align with the evolving academic needs of the student body.
  • Foster an atmosphere of collaboration and partnerships.
  • Showcase faculty innovation and creativity.
  • Provide adjunct and new faculty mentoring and support.
  • Offer training opportunities in a variety of formats to maximize participation.

Department Goals

Specific things the department wishes to achieve or accomplish this academic year.

# Department Goal
1 Continue to support and provide training for college faculty, staff and administration on effective and emerging pedagogical and technological teaching and learning best practices.
2 Host three training sessions per month designed to facilitate the transition from Angel to the Blackboard Learning Management System in preparation for a full migration by fall 2016.
3 Continue to partner with the Office of Academic Affairs, The Office of Institutional Planning, Assessment and Research, and the Student Learning Assessment Team (SLAT) to offer a minimum of three sessions per semester highlighting assessment best practice
4 Implement a College-wide adjunct orientation program.
5 Increase staff participation in CTL events by 10% from the 2014-15 academic year.
6 Coordinate the Academic Affairs Annual Spring Retreat in conjunction with the Office of the Associate Vice Presidents and the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
7 Increase Ensemble streaming server accounts by 15 %.
8 Expand use of the lecture capture technology to five additional faculty members.
9 Host a Leadership Conference Reunion during the academic year and revisit group project themes.
10 Partner with the Governance President and Vice President to develop a Governance Committee Chair Training Program.
11 Partner with the Grants Office to identify potential grant opportunities for teaching and learning.
12 Live stream two workshops each semester as a pilot project used to identify successful future formats or training platforms.
