The English Department is focused on creating more equitable access to technology and support for our students while fostering a collaborative learning environment. We're seeking funding for two additional Chromebook carts (25 devices each) to ensure all students can participate fully in digital literacy activities and online research, regardless of their personal device ownership. Expanding our Reading/Writing Center hours would provide critical support for students who need flexible tutoring options that fit their work and commuting schedules. We'd also like to establish a modest funding line for faculty professional development and department activities—things like bringing in guest speakers, attending pedagogy workshops, and creating opportunities for our team to learn and grow together. Finally, updating our English classrooms in Harriman Hall would give us modern, flexible learning spaces that support the collaborative and discussion-based work that's central to our discipline. Together, these investments would strengthen our ability to meet students where they are and help them succeed academically while building a vibrant, supportive departmental community.
