The Nursing department continues to see a significant skill failure rate, particularly among Nursing 1 students. First-time skill failure rates were increased for many of the skills, and the attrition due to skill failure for Nursing 1 has remained stable. On-time completion rates decreased in the Middletown cohorts, and increased in the Newburgh cohort. Therefore, we must develop and implement strategies to improve the skill success of Nursing 1 students to improve program completion rates. NLCEX pass rates were improved in the last academic year, but to maintain our rates we must continue to provide student support. In order to meet our goals, and to maintain the rigor and quality of the program, open full-time faculty positions will need to be filled with highly qualified candidates. In addition, student support activities will need to be expanded, including increased skill lab support staff hours; and we will need to make a significant investment in our equipment and technology to keep pace with a rapidly changing health care environment that reflects current practice.
