The Nursing department continues to see a significant attrition, particularly among Nursing 1 and 2 students. First-time skill failure rates were increased for many of the skills, and attrition due to skill failure for Nursing 1 and 2 remains problematic, with 7 students failing on skills in Spring 2025. On-time completion rates have decreased in both the Middletown and Newburgh cohorts, dropping by about 20% overall for both cohorts. Therefore, we must develop and implement strategies to improve the success of Nursing 1 students to improve program completion rates. NLCEX pass rates were also, decreased in the last academic year, and to increase our rates we must continue to provide student support both in academics and skills. In order to meet our goals, and to maintain the rigor and quality of the program, open full-time faculty positions will need to be filled with highly qualified candidates. In addition, student support activities will need to be expanded, including increased skill lab support staff hours; and we will need to make a significant investment in our equipment and technology to keep pace with a rapidly changing health care environment that reflects current practice.
