Initiative TitleImplement online application for non-degree seeking registration
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

SUNY Orange is looking to improve our services to prospective students including those who are looking to take courses as a non-degree seeking student. To help improve efficiency with the registration process, the Office of Admissions, in conjunction with the Registration Department, would like to create a streamlined online registration process to allow non-degree seeking students the opportunity to register for courses without having to come to the campus.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

As the competition continues to increase, SUNY Orange needs to find a way to streamline how our students can register as a non-degree seeking student. If we do not create this process, we risk the chance of losing students to institutions that have a more friendly process.

Department GoalsUtilize technology in our admissions presentations and programming. , Create a true online registration process for non-degree seeking students.

Institutional Goals

Goal How will the initiative support this institutional goal?
Creating a true online registration process would enable the institution to strategically plan and organize sections of course work as registration would be done in live time. As we get set to market summer registration, having this type of application would help our students register quicker without any possible issues In return, we believe students would promote our institution to other potential students looking to enroll at SUNY Orange. We also believe that having this application would be an additional item we could promote during our upcoming summer marketing plans.
This will allow our students to access course registration in a more seamless process.

Prioritization Notes

Level 2 (Enrollment Mgt and Student Financial Services, AVP Office)

Currently there is no option for non-degree students to register online and avoid coming to campus.

As the College expands online, Summer and Winter term offerings, our goal is to attract students from other colleges or the surrounding counties to enroll with us.  To do this we need to have an online registration system in place that is easy to access and use.

IT is already working towards a solution and funds would expedite the completion of the requisite programming.

Level 3 (Student Services, VP Office)

Level 4 (PBIE Committee)

Our current process is very cumbersome and is a deterrent for students not currently matriculating, or those interested in registering solely for distance learning or a small number of courses.  These students are currently prohibited from registering online and must come to campus to process registration.  This is a major inconvenience and not required at many other institutions, and hence is negatively impacting our recruitment.

Level 5 (Cabinet)

Already in progress.
