Institute funding for Student Ambassador Program

Initiative TitleInstitute funding for Student Ambassador Program
Submitted in Previous Year(s)2015
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

These students are the first people prospective students have interactions with and can lead to very meaningful conversations and experiences for our applicants. Offering a paid Student Ambassador Program would give the Office of Admissions a more diverse number of ambassadors while also enabling us to reach prospective students on a more personalized method.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

Our Student Ambassador program has a small number of students. With the overall work -load and work life balance, a lot of these students cannot afford to volunteer their time without compensation. Many of them pay for college on their own or support their families. Funding this position would give us a greater number of participants while helping the students financially.

Institutional Goals

Goal How will the initiative support this institutional goal?
Prospective students tend to gravitate more towards current students. The stories and information our Student Admission Ambassadors share with our prospective students resonates with these students and allows our applicants to build a connection to our institution.
If paid, we would be able to invite our Student Admission Ambassadors to recruitment events on and off campus including high school college fairs and panel presentations. In addition, I would like to institute a Student Admission Ambassador phone call yield campaign. This campaign would entail our ambassadors contacting our prospective students to let them know the next steps in the enrollment process.

Prioritization Notes

Level 2 (Enrollment Mgt and Student Financial Services, AVP Office)

Funding for this initiative has been generously given by the Foundation in prior years.  The importance of having students share their experiences with in-coming students and families cannot be minimized and they play an impactful role as part of the Admissions team --- leading campus tours, participating in Admissions events, handling outreach to prospective and new students.

Level 3 (Student Services, VP Office)

Level 4 (PBIE Committee)

The student ambassadors have proven to be invaluable when it comes to reaching out to potential and returning students.  The ambassadors act as an initial contact to prospective students here at the college.  The experience and first-hand knowledge shared encourages the prospective students to attend our academic institution. The ambassadors also serve as a point of contact for students to reach out to when they are looking for information or guidance, as a rapport has already been established.  The influence of these ambassadors greatly assists in acclimating students to a new academic environment.  Unfortunately, the student ambassadors may not have the opportunity to continue in their important role, as outside obligations begin to affect their ability to contribute to their campus duties.  Having a fund to help reimburse these students would help to recruit and retain them. This program has proven to have a positive effect on recruitment and retention here at the college.  Providing funding helps to alleviate some financial burden the position may impose on the ambassadors.

Level 5 (Cabinet)

Some funding found but need additional funds to sustain program.
