Microsoft Surfaces

Initiative TitleMicrosoft Surfaces
Submitted in Previous Year(s)No
Critical Information, Notes, Justification, Rationale

The move to remote instruction has caused difficulties with technology.  In math, the need to write and project on the screen is fundamental.  Due to the revamp of HA 313, the department secured five Microsoft surfaces with stylists.  The faculty who had these in their possession had an easier time pivoting to remote teaching.

We would like to see all of our faculty have access to these tablets.  For a return to campus, we could also use docking stations.

Consequences of this initiative not being funded

Less quality of lectures for our students.

Prioritization Notes

Level 4 (PBIE Committee)

PBIE committee did NOT originally move the item forward, but applied a rank to it due to the Cabinet decision to prioritize at their level.

Committee Comments:
The Math Department requests this to maintain high quality courses. The committee considered whether an Android table could be used and most instructors are using their own equipment. Equity among departments was also mentioned. It is felt that IT needs to assess and possibly design a program to renew/refresh equipment; poll all departments to see if there is a need on campus in more than one department.
