The Nursing department has seen a significant increase in skill failure, particularly among Nursing 1 students. In the last academic year, we had an increase in our on-time program completion rate to from around 52% in the past 2 years, to 69.5% in 2022-23, but the increase in Nursing 1 failures may cause a decrease in the completion rates in the current academic year. Therefore, we must develop and implement strategies to improve the skill success of Nursing 1 students to maintain program completion rates. NLCEX pass rates were improved in the last academic year, but to maintain our rates we must continue to provide student support. In order to meet our goals, and to maintain the rigor and quality of the program, open full-time faculty positions will need to be filled with highly qualified candidates. In addition, student support activities will need to be expanded, including increased skill lab support staff hours; and we will need to make a significant investment in our equipment and technology to keep pace with a rapidly changing health care environment that reflects current practice.
