During the 2022-2023 academic year, the SUNY Orange Office of Admissions continued to provide
exemplary service to our prospective students and their families. Our services continued to provide
a blend of virtual and in-person services with increased event opportunities at Newburgh and
Middletown including:

• Fall 2022 Open House
• Newly created Community Day (Newburgh Campus)
• Newburgh Preview Day
• Spring 2023 Incoming Student Day event
• Fall Guidance Counselor Luncheon

To help navigate traffic, we did review and update how we conducted fall open house. Instead of h
having campus tours available throughout the day, we decided to have campus tours go out
together after the welcome address. This allowed the event to run much smoother with foot traffic
at each of our sessions. The event included an Admissions & Financial Aid presentation followed by
a student information fair where folks could interact with faculty and staff. Numbers for our major
events are provided below:

• Fall 2022 Open House: 80 families and over 200 people
• Community Day event: 50 people
• Newburgh Preview Day: 31 families and over 50 people
• Spring Incoming Student Day: 175 families and over 300 people
• Fall Guidance Counselor Luncheon: 23 counselors from 9 high Orange County High School’s

In addition to our on-campus events, we offered individual appointments Monday-Thursday. These
appointments were available in-person, virtual via zoom or by phone. Appointments were available
Monday & Tuesday in Middletown and Wednesday & Thursday in Newburgh. In total, we had over
400 appointments scheduled for both campuses.

The 2022-2023 academic year also provided some technology upgrades to help provide services for
our incoming students. In addition to enhancing the use of our CRM, the admissions office, in
collaboration with other departments in Student Services, will be launching a chat bot feature to
help provide a communication method that will give students information quickly. This will also
eliminate the amount of phone calls and emails we have regarding basic questions. The chat bot
will be released in two phases: Phase 1: CHATBOT ONLY & Phase 2: Banner integration. In addition,
the admission office purchased Axiom to help bridge the Fireworks application to banner, which
has allowed us to redesign the application to make it more student friendly. Soft launch will be for
Summer/Fall 2024 Applicants.
