Upon review of plans from academic departments in the Liberal Arts Division, several themes that will require resources have emerged: anticipated cost increases; supporting and showcasing student work; improving facilities; strengthening partnerships with external organizations; professional development.

There are also several areas that were identified in academic departmental plans that will not require financial resources but will need to employ professional ingenuity and human resources to achieve: maintaining curricular currency and excellence; programmatic development and evolution; assessment of student learning; implementing registered tracks and viewing programs from a cohort-management perspective; using academic technology to enhance pedagogy.

Other division-wide areas of change and innovation (some that will require resources and some that will not) include: training and utilization of technology that will seamlessly and effectively connect multiple campuses; embracing OER culture; scheduling shifts that accommodate accelerated and virtualized learning; facilities upgrades that support learning and telegraph the right messages about teaching and learning; providing opportunities for students to apply and contextualize learning and apply written, verbal and other communication skills. In addition, any College-wide adoption of Guided Pathways techniques or other College-wide retention strategies will require all division members to devote thoughtful time to planning and implementation.
